Promoting the Safety and Independence of Older Residents in Social Housing
This report outlines the learnings from the Age Friendly Social Housing Programme in Southwark, with specific recommendations that are applicable for any housing association with elderly residents across the UK.
Between 2022 and 2024, the Housing Associations’ Charitable Trust (HACT) Age Friendly Social Housing Programme in Southwark explored ways for housing associations to collaborate with partners in Southwark Council, the NHS and the community and voluntary sector to develop a more joined-up response to the needs of older residents.
The conclusions and recommendations of the report highlight the urgent need to deliver an efficient and effective service for aids and adaptations, including by using the Adaptations Without Delay approach to carry out assessments. The report outlines key areas and practical steps to enable a move from a reactive to a proactive mindset and to develop partnership working with all those who have an interest in maintaining and improving residents’ health, wellbeing and independence.
