Share and Care Homeshare 2024 Report

Share and Care Homeshare 2024 Report COVER

This annual report from Share and Care Homeshare, the largest homeshare organisation in the UK, provides insight into how homeshare can support older people and the factors that are driving an increase in such arrangements.

The report highlights how the primary reason for someone to consider a homeshare arrangement is memory issues, closely followed by poor mobility. It details statistics on other drivers for homeshare, including Parkinson’s disease, sight issues, heart conditions, anxiety, loneliness, arthritis and being at risk of falls, and also reveals that there is often more than one driver for seeking a homeshare arrangement, such as dementia coupled with loneliness.

Its survey statistics outline the impact homeshare can have on mental well-being, risk of falls, safe independent living and promoting good diet. It also includes a call to action, including to local authorities, to look at innovative ways to ensure that householders who have a sharer are not financially disadvantaged regarding council tax and to increase awareness among health and social care professionals of homeshare as a service.
