Sheltered Housing: Who is it meant for? - The Allocation Process (November 2006)

Published by University of Sussex, November 2006

At this earlier Workshop it was agreed that what sheltered housing provides, par excellence, is preventive care. Sheltered housing is a specific mode of accomodation - it is not meant to provide support for all categories of older people. There are some for whom sheltered housing is not appropriate; firstly because it cannot provide the support needed; and secondly, and very importantly, because such allocations may actually threaten to negate the provision of preventative care to the existing residents.
