Supporting people with dementia in housing settings
In this transcript of an interview recorded for Dementia Awareness Week 2017 with Abbeyfield Society, Sue Garwood, the Housing LIN Dementia Lead until end June 2017, addresses some of the concerns and challenges faced by housing staff in housing settings.
These include, for example, when it becomes inappropriate for a person with dementia to carry on living in a housing setting, and some of the things housing providers could do to increase tolerance and empathy by other occupants towards residents with dementia. She also considers broader housing and dementia issues such as why it is important for housing staff to have a good understanding of dementia, what they need to know, and what a dementia-friendly organisation looks like.
