A broader understanding of leadership

Being part of the Housing LIN Future Leaders Network has been a fantastic opportunity to expand my professional network and develop key leadership skills. Connecting with a wide range of housing professionals— from early-career peers to experienced leaders and previous cohorts—has given me valuable insights into different aspects of the sector. While my work focuses on property and maintenance, the network has encouraged me to take a broader view, helping me understand the bigger picture and the role of innovation in shaping the future of housing and residents’ lives.

One of the most inspiring moments was hearing from Laura Wood and the development of Invisible Creations from an idea. Her presentation highlighted how small, thoughtful design changes can make a huge difference in making homes more accessible. It reinforced the importance of innovation and forward-thinking when planning housing projects. This is something I will take forward in my career, ensuring that the homes I work on are not just functional but truly meet people’s needs.

The programme has helped me build confidence in my leadership abilities. I’ve learned the value of collaboration, creative problem-solving, and taking initiative—skills that will be essential as I progress in my career. I’m excited to apply these lessons to future projects and contribute to a more inclusive and forward-thinking housing sector.

Amrik's blog is one of many by members of the 4th cohort of the Housing LIN’s Future Leaders Programme that we are excited to publish in the lead up to our 'sell-out' London conference – A Festival of Ideas: Age-Friendly Homes and Connected Community, taking place on Wednesday, 26 March 2025. We'll be joined by several of the Future Leaders who will be joining sponsor, Inspired Villages Group, that afternoon to share their sector leadership journeys.
