As well as a long career in journalism and marketing, with a range of specialisms including property, Tony is best known for his work in the later life sector. He helped establish the first national newspaper for older people in the UK, and has written several books on later life employment, retirement and care.

His voluntary roles have included representing older people into government and acting as the comms director for the English Forums on Ageing (now EngAgeNet), where he has recently helped revive the Age Action Alliance. He is also housing champion for older people in the South West and has recently joined the Older People's Housing Group. He is regularly asked to speak at or chair conferences nationally and comment on national media. In 2014 he received an OBE for his services to older people.
