Strengthening the intergenerational contract: investing for intergenerational fairness

This report from the International Longevity Centre (ILC) explores people’s perceptions and experiences of intergenerational inequalities, with a view to identifying solutions that will help strengthen the intergenerational contract - the principle whereby different generations support one another at different points in their lives, depending on their needs and resources - and support the wellbeing of all generations.
While not focused on housing, the report offers facts and figures around housing wealth as well as healthcare. The ILC's research also showed that across generations, respondents believed that state support for older people is likely to decrease in the future.
The report argues that family, the financial services sector and the Government all have a role to play in supporting the welfare of different generations to preserve social cohesion and strengthen the intergenerational contract.
