All the news you need and more.
Friday, 8 April 2022
In this week's HLINks, we report on a new guest blog for the Housing LIN by Nigel Hopkins of Standards Wise International in which he looks at how standards in senior living can benefit both the consumer and the service provider.
We also remind readers that the deadline for applying to become one of The Dunhill Medical Trust’s TAPPI2 “testbeds”, as announced at last week’s ITEC conference in Birmingham, is 16 May 2022. Today is also the final day you can apply to become the Evaluation and Shared Learning Partner. Get your submissions in!
This week we were delighted to set a new registrations record for one of our HAPPI Hour sessions! Thank you to all 323 people who registered to attend Tuesday’s webinar on fire safety in specialist housing. Speakers from PRP architects, Ongo Homes, Metropolitan Thames Valley and GreensquareAccord housing associations delivered excellent presentations, and we were also joined by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities during the Q&A discussion. New Housing LIN guest blog argues that senior living settings need a dedicated set of standards
In this new Housing LIN guest blog, Nigel Hopkins, the International Programme Director at Standards Wise International, reveals how and why standards in senior living settings are so important.
Nigel positions care and senior living settings in the wider, national policy context before arguing that while senior living settings are mostly governed by general housing provision standards, this needs to change, and that standards in senior living settings can make a difference for the provider.

Silver Hues: Building Age-Ready Cities
This report from The World Bank puts forward the idea of age-readiness, building on the concept of the WHO’s work on age-friendliness. It highlights the varied trajectories of ageing within an urban context at a global level and draws on the experiences of older and more urban countries to show and set out how others can become age-ready.

More stories of the impacts of the delays on individuals, as well as a tracker by local authority area, are included on the research webpages.
