New Housing LIN guest blog explores mutual relationships and their benefits and challenges to planners
One of the critical factors in creating supportive relationships between older people, carers and families is enabling a strong element of ‘mutuality’ to flourish. That's why, in this new Housing LIN blog, Jenny Kartupelis MBE, author and Director of Faith in Society explores what that means in practice, and why it matters to planning for an ageing population.
Housing, Community, Disability, and Ageing
The Dunhill Medical Trust awards for building and developing suitable living environments and communities for an ageing population
The Dunhill Medical Trust have announced 8 projects that will receive funding to support collaborative projects between researchers and community partners. They range from almshouses of the future to generating age-friendly communities, and the co-design of technology for ageing well to understanding the needs of Bangladeshi elders.
Supported housing oversight pilots: independent evaluation
The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities provided £5.4 million to 5 local authorities to test ways of improving quality and value for money in supported housing.
These pilots ran from October 2020 to September 2021 and tested interventions to raise standards of accommodation and support and improve local authority oversight of the local supported housing market.
This evaluation of the supported housing pilots sets out the findings from the local authorities’ activities and makes a set of recommendations to improve quality and value for money in supported housing.
Amar Bari, amar jibon research post
Amar bari, amar jibon’ (My home, my life): developing living environments for Bangladeshi elders, is a pioneering 36-month long research project, funded by The Dunhill Medical Trust, that will explore diversity and inclusion in later life living environments and communities in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham.
