All the news you need and more.
Friday, 17 June 2022
Welcome back to #Jeremytalks and our must-read weekly bulletin HLINks.
This week, we drew attention to a range of resources and tools hosted on the Housing LIN ‘Combating loneliness and reducing social isolation’ webpages in support of Loneliness Awareness Week, hosted by Marmalade Trust, to help reduce the stigma of loneliness and encourage people to talk more openly about it.
We also shared a new report by Foundations, produced in partnership with Habinteg and Anchor Hanover with support from Taylor Wimpey, that follows the publication of the Independent Review of DFG in 2018 and provides guidance on delivering better home adaptations in social housing.
In addition, Smplicare, a software startup based in Edinburgh, is conducting one of the largest studies ever involving wearables and older people to develop AI that predicts the risk of falls, funded by UKRI. So if you’re part of an innovative assisted living or housing association that supports older people to live independently, find out more here.

New guidance on delivering better home adaptations in social housing
This report, published by Foundations and produced in partnership with Habinteg and Anchor Hanover with support from Taylor Wimpey, follows the publication of the Independent Review of DFG in 2018 and provides guidance on delivering better home adaptations in social housing.
The report provides practical solutions and recommendations for housing associations, local authorities and central government, to address the confusion about funding and improve home adaptations delivery.
Fire safety guidance strengthened for new high-rise homes
Further to our recent HAPPI Hour on fire safety and fire safety in specialist housing, the government has released new guidance for all high rise homes.
New improvements to fire safety guidance form part of a wider update to tighten building regulations and provide clearer fire safety rules for the design or construction of residential developments.
You’re invited to participate in Smplicare’s UKRI-funded research on Healthy Ageing and Falls
Smplicare, a software startup based in Edinburgh, is conducting one of the largest studies ever involving wearables and older people to develop AI that predicts the risk of falls.
They're looking to partner with leading organisations like yours to recruit research participants for this large-scale study.

Hospital discharge and its impact on patient flow through hospitals
This report, published by the Welsh Government Health and Social Care Committee, looks into hospital discharge and its impact on patient flow through hospitals. The report highlights a number of issues that can contribute to holding up the discharge process, including housing.
Social care, health and housing should be seen as the three pillars of the discharge system but the committee heard that suitability of housing considerations are too often an afterthought, and not given sufficient priority.
