HLINks - Housing LIN's weekly update at your fingertips

All the news you need and more

Welcome to #Jeremytalks and this week’s sector news from the Housing LIN

On Thursday, we were delighted to publish our newest Inspirational Achievement feature in partnership with Places for People Living Plus, Jubilee Place, an innovative modular living project. It includes a case study from the perspective of Richard Lynch, Wellbeing Coordinator on wellbeing and social prescribing. Get inspired here

And following the recent roundtable discussion hosted by Lovell Later Living and Motionspot, supported by the Housing LIN, to coincide with the CIH annual conference and exhibition in Manchester last month, we are pleased to publish a guest blog by one of the attendees, Norfolk County Council's Jessamy Hayes, in which she reflects on the findings from a series of focus groups held with Norfolk residents in early 2020 that revealed the complexity associated with promoting a new housing scheme.

We also held a successful HAPPI Hour on downsizing and rightplacing, showcasing two influential research projects. Sticking with Manchester, the first is the work of the School of Architecture on their research into understanding the meaning of place and how this affects their housing choices. The second, the research undertaken by the Universities of Cambridge and Sheffield on older social housing residents' aspirations in LB Hackney following the regeneration of their estate. The feedback were great and you can now (re)watch the session, download the slides and view the chat on this event’s webpage.

The Commission on Creating Healthy Cities, chaired by Lord Best and Kellogg College’s Global Centre on Healthcare and Urbanisation, Oxford, investigated the links between urban matters and health and wellbeing. Their resultant report brings together a set of recommendations, which follow under four headings, including the built environment. The report focusses on a number of important elements that make the case between health and housing and associated interventions. Find out more below:
