HLINks - Catch up with the Housing LIN

Let's catch up!

Friday, 9th September 2022

Welcome to #Jeremytalks and this week's HLINks.

We are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts are with The King and the Royal Family at this time.

This week, we announced the six successful TAPPI testbeds. Bield Housing & Care, Haringey Council, Platform Housing Group, Pobl Group, Southend Care and Wiltshire Council will each receive between £65k - £75k in funding so they can involve their older residents in shaping new digital services. We are excited to work alongside each housing provider to improve the way technology is used in housing and care for older people through ten practical principles.

It's quieter on the news front this week so I'll take the opportunity to highlight some slight presentational changes. We now provide a more 'bitesize' round-up of new resources. While we will still highlight latest policy announcements, reports, case studies, etc, we encourage you to visit our news webpage where there will be a fuller account on key news items we've covered.

Lastly, we are always keen to hear stories, receive your good practice case studies and thought leadership. If you would like to contribute, email us at: comms@housinglin.org.uk

Stay connected, stay curious!

Accessibility Awareness reminds us that "you don't necessarily need to say "image of" in your alt text* for users to know it's an image. Screen readers will announce that it's an image. However, it can help readers to specify if it's a hand-drawn image, Polaroid, infographic, screenshot, chart, map, diagram, or so on." The key takeaway is keeping your alt text concise without leaving out any key details that could help the reader understand the image's purpose."

*Alt text is copy written that appears in place of an image on a webpage if the image fails to load of a user's screen. This text also helps screen-reading tools describe images to visually impaired readers.
