HLINks - Catch up with the Housing LIN

Let's catch up!

Friday, 25 November 2022

Welcome to this week's #JeremyTalks

Following last week's Autumn Statement, this week's HAPPI Hour put the spotlight on the cost of living crisis. We were joined by The Charity Bank, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, CHCymru (the trade body for housing associations in Wales) and WWA architects to explore how the current economic situation is affecting our sector.

On Monday, the new Housing Minister, Lucy Frazer MP, confirmed in a reply to a House of Commons question that she is committed to launching the Older People's Housing Task Force

On the publication front, following a series of joint workshops with NASP, HACT and Housing LIN, a new report was released on Tuesday. Innovations in Social Prescribing: The role of housing provides examples of good practice and emerging innovation from housing associations and charities across the country. If you find this of interest, take a look at our CollaborAGE Directory with a  range of community-led and collaborative practice examples.

I was also pleased to join the Shakespeare Martineau webinar on technology and to present on housing and ageing on the final day of this year's Homes UK conference at the ExCel centre in London.

Lastly, we are always keen to hear stories, receive your good practice case studies and thought leadership. If you would like to contribute, email us at: comms@housinglin.org.uk

On Wednesday, our Co-production partner, Co-production Works ran the first of two co-production training sessions for the 6 TAPPI testbeds aimed to help participants understand co-production, its values, history, and how it is used.

This training coincided with this week's Co-production Week Scotland. Find out about Bield Housing and Care - our Scottish testbed - and their ambition to:

  • Improve digital literacy and engagement with older people,
  • Develop a framework to further enhance digital engagement and usage amongst their client and staff groups,
  • Keep more people living independently for longer using technology, using a co-production approach.

Follow their journey on Twitter and LinkedIn

TSA's bimonthly Industry Magazine, TEC Voice was published this week and includes an update on TAPPI

Next Monday, we look forward to hosting the first TAPPI Steering Board meeting, chaired by Professor Roy Sandbach, the former Director of the National Innovation, Centre for Ageing at the University of Newcastle and chair of the original TAPPI Inquiry. We look forward to publishing a new guest blog by Roy and sharing who is on the Board next week.

Led by the Housing LIN, the TEC Services Association (TSA) and funded by The Dunhill Medical Trust, TAPPI seeks to address the opportunity that technology has to enhance the lives of our ageing population and the barriers that prevent its adoption.

Sally Taylor-Ridgway, communications & event's officer, shares...

Sally Taylor-Ridgway

"The Centre for Ageing Better have released a suite of icons, freely available for public use, as alternatives to symbols commonly used to represent ageing and older people. This range of free-to-use ‘age-positive’ icons were launched to replace stereotypical symbols of ageing.

This is a useful resource to help tackle ageism. As referred to by Stephanie Hatzifilalithis and Nicole Dalmer in their recent article on Ageism in tech, ageism refers to the stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel) and discrimination (how we act) we might hold towards others or ourselves based on age."
