HLINks - Catch up with the Housing LIN
Let's catch up!
Welcome to this week's edition of HLINks, your go-to e-bulletin for all things related to housing with care | Friday, 31 March 2023
This week, I was delighted to attend TSA's ITEC 2-day conference where I presented on TAPPI and launched a series of personal stories on its positive impact with our testbed partners.
The conference also saw the release of two new reports by the TEC Action Alliance: Technology-Enabled Lives: Delivering Outcomes for People and Provider and A guide to getting started in co-production. I was delighted to contributed a piece on making our living environment appropriate to our changing needs.
In other news, check out Katey Twyford's new blog highlighting the importance of three new Insight booklets published by the DemECH project for those with dementia, carers, and commissioners/operators of extra care housing.
And, you may have seen that Shakespeare Martineau released their report "Moving On: Could later living by the answer to the housing crisis?" following their opening session at the Housing LIN Summit on "Last time movers and shakers".
Other things that caught my interest this week include:
- Housing21/ECCT considering merger
- Bangladesh Independence Day celebrated the 1st anniversary of the Amar Bari, Amar Jibon project
- I visited Agile Homes with NHS England
- CAE blog on affordable housing options for disabled people by OT Marney Walker
- The APPG on Leasehold and Commonhold reform held a roundtable meeting looking at retirement housing after ground rents
- Good Thing Foundation HoL submission on digital exclusion and cost of living
- Nuffield Trust social attitudes report on social care
- Age UK report on cost of living crisis impact on older people
Finally, we're always eager to hear your stories and receive your case studies and thought leadership on good practices. If you would like to contribute, email us at: comms@housinglin.org.uk.
Stay connected, stay curious!

Welcome to TAPPI Cast, our weekly update on the 'Technology for our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation' (TAPPI) project which aims to improve the way technology is used in housing and care for older people.
This week’s TAPPI cast includes an update from our TAPPI representatives following the publication of the first four personal stories from our TAPPI Co-production Champions group at TSA’s annual conference.
Sector News and Announcements
Amar Bari, Amar Jibon project celebrates its one year anniversary
Launched one year ago to coincide with Bangladesh Independence Day (26 March), Amar Bari, Amar Jibon (My home, My Life) project is well underway. Funded by The Dunhill Medical Trust, project leaders The Open University, supported by Bangla Housing Association and the Housing LIN have made great strides to raise awareness of the probin community in East London.
Why aren’t more people rightsizing?
Research by Shakespeare Martineau shows that the majority of people believe that rightsizing to a homethat better suits their needs is either unaffordable, reserved for the point of healthcrisis, or simply a ‘problem for when I’m older’.
Opportunity for improved lives through digital care not being realised, report finds
A new report launched by the TEC Action Alliance at TSA's ITEC conference, has found that only a handful of councils, housing and care organisations are delivering digital care in people’s homes at scale, to cut hospital admissions, speed up emergency response times, and reduce long waits for formal social care.
