Dementia and Housing Working Group identifies a lack of national focus on dementia friendly housing standards

With inadequate national dementia friendly housing policy direction and limited investment in dementia training for housing professionals, the Dementia and Housing Working Group (DHWG) relaunches as the only national group taking this agenda forward. Bringing together a wide range of volunteer stakeholders with an action-oriented ethos and a track record of producing tangible outcomes, the DHWG invites you to join the group and get involved.

A number of HAPPI-inspired projects have been shortlisted for this year’s Housing Design Awards. Organised by Design for Homes, the submissions include a selection of affordable and high-end accommodation for older people.

Demonstrating the Social Value of Wheelchair User Homes

LSE Housing and Communities, a small research group based at the London School of Economics, have been asked by Habinteg Housing Association to undertake research into the social value of wheelchair user homes. The project will run from February 2023 to July 2023.

Renting your own place

This new easy-read blog by Gary Bourlet, Co-Founder at Learning Disability England, discusses a project in partnership with researchers from the University of York and the University of Bristol, Riverside, Housing LIN and Stephen Lee Hodgkins on a research project. The project team also has an advisory group of self-advocates with lived experience from York People First and My Life, My Choice.

Almshouse Longevity Study - Can Living in an Almshouse Lead to a Longer Life?

The Almshouse Association has partnered with Bayes Business School, London, to find out whether almshouses have an effect on the longevity of residen. The recently published report suggests that living in almshouses can reduce the negative impact on health and social wellbeing which is commonly experienced by the older population in lower socioeconomic groups.
