Government Urged to Regenerate the UK’s Sheltered Housing Stock

A new report, launched last week at the House of Lords by the All-Party Parliament Group (APPG) on Housing and Care for Older People, co-chaired by Lord Best, calls for urgent upgrades to the estimated 527,000 sheltered housing properties in the UK.

Researched and written by the Housing LIN, and funded by Abbeyfield, the report highlights the need for modern, accessible homes for older residents. It showcases successful regeneration projects and urges investment in refurbishments, emphasising the health benefits.

Carers UK's Caring Survey - Have Your Say!

The Carers UK annual State of Caring survey is the most extensive survey into unpaid carers’ experiences in the UK. 

This year, there is a specific section on housing in the survey. Have your say by 11 August 2024! 

National Planning Policy Framework - Update

As trailed in the national press and media over the weekend, tomorrow sees the publication of the government’s updated National Planning Policy Framework, setting out new planning guidance for ‘get Britain building again’. 

Concerning accessible and adaptable housing, we await details if it will build on the references made in the last NPPF and provide more guidance on assessing housing needs for older people as well as how this should be reflected in local planning policies.

This report by the National Audit Office (NAO) assesses value for money in terms of whether DLUHC (now MHCLG) is working with government departments and local authorities in a way that maximises the government’s ability to tackle homelessness, delivers appropriate system leadership, and support local authorities well. 

NHS and care regulator 'not fit for purpose'

Last week's BBC headline trails that the NHS and care regulator is ‘not fit for purpose’ ahead of the publication of a National Audit Office final report.

The findings will also be of interest to providers of specialist/supported housing providers operating across all tenures.
