HLINks: Housing LIN Annual Conference, new resources, and news from across the specialist housing sector.
Wednesday saw the Housing LIN Annual Conference 2019. The event was a great success and enjoyed by everyone who attended. We'll be sending an e-alert next week with full details and highlights of the Conference.
This week also saw the launch of the final video in our 'Spotlight on Extra Care' series, we published a new blog by Shirley Hall, and ExtraCare Charitable Trust launched a new report into integrating health and care.
We've got details of all of these, and our usual roundup of news from the specialist housing and housing with care sectors.
Housing LIN Annual Conference
Homes for Our Age: An IdeasFest
The Housing LIN would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to our Annual Conference: Homes for Our Age – An IdeasFest, on Wednesday.
There are far too many highlights to list here, so we will be creating a full post-conference page on our website next week, including photos, reports, and highlights from the day. Look out for our e-alert next week with all the details.
In addition, all of the plenary and symposia presentations from this year's conference are now available on our website, and you can find these by following the link below.
One particular highlight of the conference was the release of the Housing LIN’s new guide for Central Bedfordshire Council, looking at the role of community-led development in the provision of specialist housing for older people.
Spotlight On Extra Care
The Future for Extra Care Housing
'The Future for Extra Care Housing' is the final video in the Housing LIN's 'Spotlight on Extra Care' series. In this film, contributors to the series consider the possible future for Extra Care Housing, and outline ways in which the specialist housing market might adapt to our changing society. From Co-housing and intergenerational living, to specialist schemes, new urban centres and digital integration - the possibilities are as diverse as our older generation themselves.
New Blog
Bridging the loneliness gap – how bringing the generations together benefits both
Our newest blog, by Shirley Hall, looks at how by incorporating intergenerational practice into what we do, we reinforce our communities as ageless spaces, where relationships can develop and loneliness can fade
New Resources
Integrated Homes, Care and Support: Measurable Outcomes for Healthy Ageing
A new report from ExtraCare Charitable Trust shows older people benefit from improved physical and mental health in retirement communities, resulting in cost savings to the NHS.
Throughout the report, the focus is on the benefits to residents generated through ExtraCare villages and schemes, including sustained improvements in markers of health and well-being for residents and subsequent cost implications for the NHS.

Have your say! Watch out for our new ‘rightsizing’ survey. Working in partnership with Shakespeare Martineau, we want to get a clearer understanding of why more later living accommodation is not being built, gauging the level of demand, and identifying what will encourage developers to invest more in housing in later life.
