Overview
Following the announcement of the consultation on the National Planning Policy Framework - which aims to pave the way for constructing 1.5 million new homes over the next five years, setting local housing targets, and developing New Towns - we are excited to share this HAPPI Hour recording on better understanding the housing needs of an ageing population.
We explore UKRI's Healthy Ageing Challenge Programme and how its investments have driven the development of age-inclusive products, empowering local communities to discover a wider range of housing solutions for an ageing population across the UK.
And, drawing on the HAPPI-inspired work by the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation in Kent, the session also provides an update on the Healthy New Town initiative, discussing whether it can serve as a model for the government's New Town programme.
Additionally, we showcase international best practices in placemaking, featuring an example from Happy Cities from Canada and their toolkit for collaborating with councils and clients in this field on the other side of the Atlantic!
