The Dementia Self-Help Project
Since 2012 the Dementia Self-Help project has co-ordinated the formation, facilitation and evaluation of self-help, peer-support groups for people with dementia (or severe memory problems) living in extra care and sheltered housing schemes across London, provided by Housing & Care 21.
Now self-sustained with the help of volunteers, the groups bring tenants together to learn and share coping strategies to support themselves and each other living with dementia.
To assist group facilitators and organisations wishing to set up and run similar self-help groups, the Mental Health Foundation has produced a resource pack, Running self-help groups in sheltered and extra care accommodation for people who live with dementia - A guide, and a report evaluating the project's success.
