It was great to see last week's official launch of the UKRI Healthy Ageing Challenge Impact report in the House of Lords. Hosted by Lord Willetts, the launch celebrated the close of this pioneering Innovate UK programme, including significant investment in age-friendly housing and environmental research and development.

Attending the event, Housing LIN's CEO Jeremy Porteus said: "It’s been a real privilege to be a UKRI Healthy Ageing Challenge’s Board member these past 5 years. We had big challenges during this time, including COVID-19, but under Helena Herklots  - The Older People’s Commissioner for Wales - stewardship we made remarkable progress to support bringing new products and services to market!"

In this HAPPI Hour webinar kindly supported by Winckworth Sherwood, we explored various tenure options, from shared equity products such as older person’s shared ownership and discounted market sales to private rental and try before you buy.

Our expert panel shared how developers, housing operators and investors can open up a new market for much needed age-friendly accommodation for a ‘rightsizer’ market.

Rethinking repairs and maintenance

The Rethinking Repairs and Maintenance project was established by the Chartered Institute of Housing and National Housing Federation to support the social housing sector to implement this recommendation and improve the standard of repairs and maintenance services delivered to social housing residents.

Based on research with residents, social landlords, and wider stakeholders, the project developed good practice guidance, case studies and twelve guiding principles for how social landlords should work with their residents and colleagues to improve their repairs and maintenance services.
