Getting started with Design Codes
The Office for Place have produced a suite of documents to help local councils develop their understanding of design codes. They set clear and effective standards of design, assisting them to navigate through a complex policy landscape with limited resources.
To achieve this, they have developed tools and guidance to help councils get started with the design code process as well as sharing best practice, showcasing what steps can be taken to create beautiful, healthy and sustainable places and support the building of more quality homes, for all.
While not housing for older people or disabled people specific, the resources include:
- an infographic (opens new window) explaining the benefits of design codes
- a report (opens new window) into international precedents for design codes.
- case study videos (opens new window) from two local pathfinder councils, a developer and a researcher about the benefits of design coding.
